From A1C 11.8 to 5.9: My Journey With Type 2 Diabetes

I'm Jay Loyola, founder of GlucoCoachAI. This is my story—and why I built this app.

The Diagnosis

In January 2025, everything changed. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
My A1C was 11.8. My fasting glucose was 322.

I sat there in disbelief, wondering how I had let my health get to that point — and what life was going to look like moving forward.

The Struggle

At first, I’ll be honest — I was scared and frustrated.

I didn’t know what to eat. I didn’t know how to exercise the “right” way. And I couldn’t figure out why my glucose numbers seemed to jump around even when I thought I was doing everything correctly.

And it wasn’t just restaurants or social events — I was stressed about what to eat every single day. Every meal felt like pressure. I kept thinking, If I eat the wrong thing, am I making this worse?

Even simple things became stressful. Going to dinner with friends or showing up to a family gathering suddenly felt like a problem to solve. I found myself second-guessing every food choice, worried about how it might affect my numbers.

And when I needed answers? Waiting for my doctor or dietician — even just for a callback or my next appointment — was aggravating.

The Transformation

There were setbacks. There were sacrifices. And there were days it felt like I was fighting my own body.

But step by step, I started to figure it out — and I made real progress.

Today my A1C is down to 5.9, and my fasting glucose is 114.

My doctor called the results “amazing.” And I’m proud of that… but I’m not going to pretend the process was amazing.

It was hard. It was confusing. And a lot of days, it was overwhelming.

Why I Built GlucoCoachAI

That’s why I created GlucoCoachAI.

I wanted the tool I wish I had when I first got diagnosed — something smart, simple, and actually useful day-to-day. An AI-powered coach that helps you spot patterns, make better choices, and feel confident… not confused.

And yes — you can use a general AI chat app.
But GlucoCoachAI is built specifically for people living with Type 2 diabetes — and for people with prediabetes or anyone who’s trying to improve their blood sugar and avoid getting to that point in the first place. It’s designed around your numbers, your patterns, and the real decisions you make every day — meals, snacks, restaurants, cravings, workouts, and those “what can I eat right now?” moments.

Also — I know social media groups can be… intense 😅 So let me say this up front: GlucoCoachAI isn’t random AI guessing or pulling advice from sketchy websites. The app pulls from credible health sources (ADA, CDC, NIH, and other reputable references), and the goal is to keep guidance grounded in real diabetes best practices.

It’s not here to replace your doctor. It’s here to help with the everyday moments between appointments — the part nobody prepares you for.

This isn’t just a business for me. It’s personal.

I built GlucoCoachAI because I’ve lived it — the ups and downs, the frustration, and the small wins that come with managing Type 2 diabetes.

My mission is simple: make life with diabetes easier, healthier, and less overwhelming — for me, for you, and for anyone trying to figure this out.

Because managing diabetes shouldn’t feel like a full-time job.

A Personal note from Jay

If you’re reading this, you’re probably overwhelmed — because that’s exactly where I was not long ago.

I want you to know something: you’re going to be okay.

It won’t be easy. There will be setbacks. But you can do this — and you don’t have to do it alone.

I built GlucoCoachAI because I wish I had it at the start of my journey.
Now it’s here. And it’s here for you.

Let's do this together.
